Seminal musical works of the early part of the 20th century still reverberate in hearts and ears of today's composers. Da Capo traces some of these resonances and their expanded musical language.

Bard Conservatory and College. We look forward to working with the composition students of Joan Tower, George Tsontakis, and Kyle Gann. This concert will feature works by both Joan and Kyle, as well as professor John Halle, alumni Stefan Weisman and Dan Sonenberg, and current College student Craig Judelman. As if that's not enough, we will be joined by the excellent cellist Diane Chaplin of the Colorado Quartet and current student performers.
Da Capo Chamber Players is thrilled to present Folk Influences and More: an insightful program that crosses cultural boundaries to explore the universal art of folk songs. Take Chinary Ung's Child Song: a work that melds Eastern and Western harmonies through its use of a Cambodian children's song. After a recent all-Chinary Ung program at Juilliard, Sequenza 21 said, "the sound of Western instruments in such gifted Eastern hands is disarming, refreshing, and exciting." Hovenweep by Kyle Gann is inspired by an ancient, highly developed and well-preserved village on the Utah-Colorado border, occupied by the Anasazi from 500 BC to 1300 AD. Reza Vali's Folk Songs for flute and cello uses both real and "enhanced" Persian folk elements. Stereophile calls Vali's music "a stunning blend of Persian folk music and the western classical tradition."
Other works on the program include Stefan Weisman's Fuse Action (a duet for humming flute and bass clarinet), Jon Magnussen's Name Songs for solo piano, and Joan Tower's Big Sky for Piano Trio.
